JCC Camp Bear Ridge

2013 Camp Bear Ridge Dates, Rates and Registration

What’s Not New?

Welcome to JCC Camp Bear Ridge! Our program for the summer of 2013 has been reinvented with even more creative programs and activities. What’s new, you ask? Well, NOT the nurturing and caring staff or expertise in early childhood development. Providing a developmentally appropriate program that stimulates young children through multi-sensory, child-centered, organized discovery experiences and rich adult-child interactions remain the backbone of our philosophy. That will not change. Read on to find out what will.

What IS new are the amazingly cool and intensely fun weekly theme-based activities. Check out some of the planned activities below. You choose which weeks you want to attend.

I Can’t Wait for Camp: June 10-21 – Little Scientists

This year while we wait for the summer camp adventures to begin, we’ll be little scientists exploring, experimenting, and observing the world around us. We will take nature walks, perform an archeological dig, and watch a live bug show. We’ll learn about recycling, composting, and other ways to take care of the world around us. We will plant a garden, and bake or freeze some cool cooking treats. We’ll observe what happens when we mix Red Bull with whole milk, and other weird and wacky science activities. Plus, we’ll document all the fun with pictures!

Week 1: June 24-28 – Let’s Camp Out

We’ll make a hearty camp breakfast with all of our campers. We’ll have story time and s’mores in real tents. Then, we’ll build a pretend camp fire and learn camp songs!

Week 2* : July 1-3 – America the Beautiful

(* No camp 7/4 or 7/5 - fees are pro-rated) All things red, white and blue will be our focus. Patriotic cooking and craft activities will include red, white & blue day, tie dye your own t-shirt, and a patriotic parade! Plus, the ice cream truck will deliver some frozen red, white and blue treats!

Week 3: July 8-12 – Farm Friends

Pet a goat, hold a duck, feed a bunny, and hear a rooster crow! Live farm animals will visit Camp Bear Ridge. Wear your overalls, sit on a bale of hay, and milk a pretend cow on the farm!

Week 4: July 15-19 – Underwater Explorers

“Go fishing” out on the playground: Splash in our water tables and sprinklers, learn about aquatic creatures, make your own “Under the Sea” snack, and enjoy a live bubble show!

Week 5: July 22-26 – Land of Israel

We’ll hop aboard El Al Airlines and get our passports stamped when we land. Visit the shuk (Israeli market), stop for a snack in an Israeli cafe, ride a “camel,” make an Israeli flag, and learn how to play gaga ball in our gaga pit.

Week 6: July 29-August 2 - Hawaiian Luau

Aloha! Wear your grass skirt or floral shirt. We’ll decorate sunglasses, make flower leis, pineapple smoothies, and learn to hula in preparation for our camp-wide luau. The ice cream truck will deliver some frozen tropical treats!

Week 7: August 5-9 – The Wild West

Howdy! Go on a pony ride and wear western hats before the Wild West BBQ for all our lil’ cowboys and cowgirls. Smile! Children will decorate a photo frame and bring home a picture of themselves riding a pony!

Week 8: August 12-16 – Beach Buddies

We’ll make sand castles, sand art, decorate our own flip-flops, and go slip sliding on our water slide. Bring your towel and have a summer picnic on our pretend beach. We’ll decorate a sun visor and have a beach-wear fashion show

NEW Swim and Fun at JCC Camp Discovery*

*Trips and swim take place weeks 3 through 8 (Camp fees for weeks 1 and 2 are pro-rated) Also new are the twice-weekly trips for four and five year olds (Pandas and Polar Bears). Twice a week, children will be bused to JCC Camp Discovery in Croton-on-Hudson, a 20 minute drive, where they will learn to swim from our American Red Cross certified swim instructors using our special “tot docks” in the pool. Then they will participate in arts and crafts, sports and other fun activities on the 14-acre campground with both their counselors and specialists from JCC Camp Discovery. (Campers must be toilet trained.)

NEW Kid Fit

This summer, three, four, and five year olds (Brown Bears, Pandas, and Polar Bearscamp groups) will have a ball with an innovative, unique cross-training programdesigned specifically for young children. NEW Sun Bears

We are offering an “on-our-way-to-school” program for one year olds with a parent or caregiver. NEW Teddy Bears

We are opening a new camp program especially for children entering a Twos program in the fall. This camp group will feature individualized separation from parents/caregivers and give children a wonderful introduction to the Early Childhood Center.
